Salut à tous !

Hi to all!

Just a little article about my return to this great land that is the African continent.

Friday, November 15 , I arrived in Mahajanga in the intention to settle my paperwork (CPD ) to be ready to board the Soléa ( Françoise boat ) and take the sea as announced early next week .

But his plans have changed. She did not share in that direction …

Departures from Mahajanga to the Comoros are rare and it is once again my good star intervene : another boat, Armas, hand in a week to Moroni, moreover, continues after discharge to Dar Es Salaam.

The departure is scheduled in only one week! What stroke of luck !

Therefore I will stay one more week in Madagascar and will be hosted by Greg and his wife Natasha.

A great week so to eat the delicious dishes prepared by Natacha and spend our evenings with Sirius and his girlfriend, friends of the family.

With all that, I forgot in the traditional picture of my guests to the bike!

So I must return one day in the corner!

Hugs to you all the way !

The Armas is a Malagasy boat and I hear quickly with the crew, with the help of which the bike will be loaded on deck in less than 10 minutes.

So I repeat the sea Sunday, November 24 evening, accompanied by Greg port, Françoise and Jean-Marc from Colas.

Thank you all and you have to Jean-Marc assured the convoy of my luggage from Tana to Mahajanga !

The Armas is an old boat : 40. But the sea is calm unlike last June, and 10 knots on average we will 48 hours to get to Moroni.

Thus began a long wait to unload countless pine planks that the ship brought here . The rainy season has arrived in the Comoros and numerous thunderstorms force dockworkers to interrupt their work. More port rules authorize ships to stay docked for 72 hours, the port is too small. The Armas will be constrained due to other arrivals to return to anchor three days.

Chantal and Jerome and I had met during my first visit in June invite me to spend a night at home.

The weather is hot here … I sleep every night on the deck of the boat and the day I spend some time in cyber cafe. This will allow me to get in touch with Anneka the program » Hello Earth » and go live on » Mov » on December 5 .

A listener , Maine, who has lived here a few years heard me talk about the concerns that I had met there for 6 months out of the bike
port, and that made me not to insist this time . She called her mother, who still lives there while sending me her phone number via facebook account radio.

So I called Nathalie , teacher here for a few years to pick me up at the port the next day. She presented Mika , a fighter who goes around the world by bicycle and, after experiencing the same problems there 4 years in a skiff today failed to Moroni , stayed here . I spend my last two days and my last three nights at Mika and his girlfriend Nadhia .

Thank you all for the welcome and for his contribution to Maine via radio « The Mov ! »

Blog Mika : www.rouletabosse.com

The Armas cast off Monday, Dec. 9 inthe early afternoon . Again a tranquil sea . And that ‘s good! For my trip until Madagascar had
really made me understand the crossing back to the mainland .

I even have the honour to take the helm !

We arrive in Dar es Salaamon 11 inthe morning, but just got bad news.

Here again there is no place and the boat will be moored in third position against another boat . Under these conditions, it is almost impossible to pull the motorcycle. Fortunately, the boat dock crane load gravel bags agrees to move the time we come to dock . In addition , I will receive the hoist for only € 5 and the bike will be placed on the land in less than 5 minutes under the Dockers look annoyed with whom I had had some altercations there 6 months and who knew me well .

A Nosteké !

Buffering CPD customs and here I am in this huge city of Dar es Salaam towards KTM garage , where I will join my friend Denis in which I announced my return leaving Moroni.

Since I moved to his home where he lives with his wife Suzie , her daughter Maya and her mother Jeanine .

Thank you to the whole family!

So I take my time a little to perk up and make my visa for Burundi,Rwanda and Uganda.

I will take the next weekend road to Kilimanjaro .

I do not know exactly where I will be for the holiday season but will be in Tanzania !

Otherwise, here the heat is TERRIBLE !

This is the full mango season … And prickly !

Spend all good Christmas and New Year !

A Nosteké !

Lundi 24 Juin.

Monday, June 24 I leave the port of Dar Es Salaam. First problem: Cannot go with the bike.

As agreed with the captain, I was put on board today for a scheduled departure tomorrow. Having negotiated with him directly without going through an agent, I do not have a ticket and the gate, they want to know where is my ticket. Two hours waiting in front of the gate for Tanzanian officials and boat arrives to let me pass, but against the heart because it has not made a special « mzugu » margin. (Speak Mzoungou: white in Swahili)

It will take the right level of the tide to the edge of the boat is up to the dock to load the machine in the best conditions. Still a tough negotiation with a bunch of morons and dockers very upset a mzugu who refuse to pay five times the normal rate. I’ll end up doing the job myself, contenting myself with the help of three of them, who sought to break even more thanthe bike locker, despite the price still exaggerated.

So now I have to wait 24 hours before departure. Here, small vessels cannot leave the port between 8H and 21H in the morning because the port activity day is reserved for large ships. We should leave the next day to Dar 22H.

Never going to leave my bike, I stay here and get the permission of the captain to spend my first night on board before leaving.

Boat, « shissiwani » flying the flag of the Comoros and the whole crew to captain Comoros. They will allow me to quickly empathize with them because they speak French.

On the bridge, most of the load consists of huge tanks, chairs and mattresses.Comoroswhere almost everything is imported, these shops are very practiced. Suddenly, in the middle of the afternoon, with the help of bosco and very friendly flight crew, the bike is surrounded by huge black cans nearly2 metershigh and3 meterscovered mattress tied! Super! A safe, secured and securely moored!

I’ll take a ride into town. The trip is expected to last three days, I have to buy water, some crackers and bananas.

I should also stamp my Carnet de Passage in Customs for the bike. I’m going to the customs office of the port. From that moment, after observing a surprise from customs face to document mysterious, I’ll wait for more than 6 hours to get a good person wanting to take a look. They send me to the office in the city of maritime safety. Then the major customs offices where after going to office desks and floors, I finally met a nice guy who knows the document and confirms that it is the customs office of the port to complete it. After explaining that I had started, he called the brigade commander, and specified the procedure. I go back and managed to resolve this formality.

That said, I suspect another problem to come!

While inTanzania, or at land borders, the CPD is well recognized and has been stamped as « input » in the territory carefree, port customs them, do not know the document! What will happen in Comoros and Madagascar?? I’m not winning!

After a night spent on a new mattress laminated to fight against mosquitoes, Tuesday, another day on the harbour. In the evening, the captain announced that the start is delayed. In fact, the most important freight loading zebu. And the truck is stuck that is bringing it down on the road.

I still spend THREE days and three nights there, with nothing to do but wait, while attending the incessant comings and goings of trucks still bringing mattresses, packages, potatoes and onions per ton, all loaded As the like what zebu have broad shoulders!

As for cattle, as they arrive on Thursday evening. How they will be loaded onto the ship? I’ve never seen so much violence against animals. Always these « chargers » that after they experienced the reluctance of animals face a ramp 80 inches wide with a slope close to 45 degrees, will start hitting them with metal bars.

And to have crossed over one on my road, I can tell you that they are good bugs! As a result, they sometimes come out of the boat on three legs and one eye to see clearly!

I sometimes afraid to do a little naïve in expressing myself with people I meet. This time those were just a bunch of savages!

Finally, we will take the sea on Friday morning at 6:00. Frankly it was time, tired of going around in circles here!

Left a few hours, hollow huge! I took a lot of terrible Sea. On a space of one metre wide, one remained free on deck, I spend the morning being sick.

The menu on the boat: rice!

Morning: boiled rice for lunch: rice with a piece of fish and evening sauce rice and rice porridge.

The good news: First, if the rice tends to block the bowel, at least it’s good to vomit, and secondly, to force vomit, are most in need of bowel!

Fortunately the weather was calm and the following two days and two nights will be quieter. I find my rhythm. After climbing the huge tarp covering the cargo to the bridge, I’ll find a hollow between two mattresses. Once inside, I will use a mattress cover as a last minute charge. A great area! Enough wind … Not too much shaking. The horizon to starboard, port and straight ahead. I’ll slice 3 hours of sleep sandwiched between my runs back bunker, which was improvised kitchen (actually consists of a rim truck, used once filled with coal giant brazier kitchen where they cook … rice!) Besides, the worse off zebu spend 72 hours travel standing, without eating or drinking, dancing from left to right unbalanced by the constant movement of the boat.

Finally, from my privileged position, I will be the first Sunday, June 30 at 6:00 in the morning or after almost a week on board (between 3 days and docked three days at sea), to shout GROUND!

In front of me: the Great Comoros!

Comorosconsists of four islands. The Grand Comoro, Anjouan, Moheli and Mayotte, after which it remained Over seas Territory since 1975, has become, after the referendum in2011, a Department of Outre Mer

But here it is: it’s Sunday, it’s early, and the ship is not allowed to dock before the arrival of the immigration police. So here we have three hours to make circles in the water before finally throwing the ropes.

Bizarre…

A sentence in the dock, the immigration police jumped on me and talk to me like a dog. One of them told me that I must follow. Very aggressive. I asked him if customs is open on Sunday because I’m worried about my CPD. He starts talking to me to pay a deposit to take me up and said: « Will have to pay Mzugu! « It upsets me, I have to move. Having been in better shape in the last 24 hours the boat, I took a lot of terrible land turns here! In the immigration office I try to explain that if I cannot get the bike to the port, I keep up on the same boat as the Anjouan Shissiwani not discharge a portion of the cargo here and continues here there.

But he did not listen to me and push me again, « Thirty dollars! » Snapping fingers.

I’m tired, I have the runs, I get angry and lose an unfortunate « asshole. » Finally, after threats of imprisonment, the upper reaches of … asshole, quiet play and I will pay the amount claimed for a great biometric visa.

And there: they do not let me return to port!

« My bike is on the boat! With my luggage! «

However, the dockers do not work on Sundays and ca not access my stuff. I do not insist and I’m away from the port. I’m dirty, I stink! And frankly, I’m too lame for me to spar with this administration! In a store I find the apple juice, the « laughing cow » (a few) and go buy bread.

My friend from the Comoros David, who lives inLille, gave me details of his aunt who lives inMoroni. I’m going. Here taxis are not expensive: € 50 ct regardless of the destination in the city.

Great welcome! Although having been warned by David Mom Gaga was very surprised that Mzugu from France arrived home.

Like many Comorian she lives in a small house of corrugated sheets. I’m uncomfortable: no baggage, no own dud, nothing! And I’m actually in a state of filth and scared!

I go in the small cyber cafe next door but no electricity. Then I come across the sister of Mother Gaga who lives next door. She told me that French lives behind and desperate to escort me home and introduce myself, I am. There, I explained my situation to Jerome. Expatriate foreman at Colas (Enterprise Roadwith several projects on the Comoros) lives here with his fiancée from Madagascar for over a year.

In five minutes, I live a huge contrast with my life these days.

They invite me to stay at their home: a guest room, a hot shower, clean clothes of the time to get mine on the boat, a meal from Madagascar foie gras, a huge steak! Houhaaaa!

And the next day, Jerome having its input port, no problem.

Unfortunately, the customs wants to know nothing: he does not know when the CPD website confirms that theComorosare signatories. So I resolve to leave the bike on the boat and wait for the start Anjouan. I avoid fees for docking and I’d move to Madagascar and organize my stay here on my back on the mainland in a few months.

I spend three days to turn in the city, drink delicious red guava juice that women sell on the roadside holding it in coolers and return regularly to the port. So it was difficult arriving, so now I go and come back by typing in the guards!

Everyone became fun! Bizarre …

Comorian (at least civil) are warm and contrary to Dar Es Salaam, no insecurity.

I meet a friend of David who will explain that here misses the work and youth with the opportunity to access study abroad stay there to work. Young people suffer. They only get jobs in the government, but in the form of unpaid internships and sometimes for several years.

He wants to stay here to contribute to the development of his country with the resources it has and try to fight against corruption.

Another 2 great evenings and nights at Chantal Jerome and I greatly appreciate the way, and two nights on the boat again shifts the start, every day … and that’s left me for about 12 hours at sea to Anjouan where I arrived Friday, July 5.

To my surprise since this is the same country, the brigade commander Customs recognizes on the CPD!

Despite a big stress with the motorcycle battery discharged, the dock does not really work because it is a holiday a national holiday and a scandalous exit the bike at low tide, after 2 hours left Port my ass on my seat!

A tour of the island is a must!

Right now it is the season of cloves. They line the road drying in the sun and perfuming the air! This is also the season of Ylang. A very present flower that is used in cosmetics.

A Modoni, I’ll find a place to sleep at Jean-Francois, owner of a distillery. The Ylang oil product that is 100% organic and exported toFrance. He prompted me to pitch my tent in the field as long as I wish.

I found a boat to Mahajanga, Madagascar: planned departure Sunday happens. Again, I prefer to arrive quickly on Mada and spend time here on my return.

But here, it’s always the same thing: boats announce starting to entice potential customers to come load cargo but expect to leave the trip profitable. And I still stay a week! Coming all the days for shipping and having to wait for midday to hear « ! Departure deferred until tomorrow »

Under these conditions, it is impossible anyway to organize anything on the island and days waiting at the port become unbearable!

Luckily I am very well received in the family home of Michael, the owner of a boat under construction on the beach, which I had contact at the port of Moroni.

This huge house is actually made up of several homes, brothers, sisters, uncles and children. The house of happiness!

Every night I’ll be prompted to share ftor (breaking the fast during Ramadan). On the terrace of the first floor, I have a place to set up the tent and I sleep like a baby in peace. The house is located 3 minutes from the port, it will be very convenient. I will not mention any names, so thank you to all the family of Michael and Kalathoume!

«Mange mange ! Toi tu dois pas faire le ramadan ! S’il te plait ! Mange !

« Eat eat! You must not do Ramadan! Please! Eat! You’re skinny! «

I will also make a ftor in Hashim, the boatswain of Shissiwani.

Herein Comoros Ramadan began on July 10 (one-day late withFranceso I understand). Since everything is closed everywhere. Finished tamarind juice and samosas to fish in the streets.

I realize that I took fewer pictures outside of those taken on the docks. I feel that my journey is summed up by the constant observation of funny guys that operate more or less honest and admire these old boats that still manage to float despite their condition. Archimedes are really the ball!

Inquiry, the rates for crossings to Mayotte are staggering: this isFranceso of course, costly to implement standards! It seems that every boat that goes there has enough life rafts to accommodate all passengers! And I’m not talking about fire extinguishers, plates painted with rust … This is too much!

I took off (again FINALLY!) Sunday, July 14 to slide between the bridge and the rusty railing of this boat and make the crossing of Anjouan in Mahajanga, a port west of Madagascar where the arrival is therefore Monday, July 15.

The crossing lasts more than 40 hours! Almost two full days in hell!

Again hollow terrible on an even smaller boat. The bike is strapped to the back because I refused them to strap further forward against a wall. Just before the first night on board, it’s down! The boat has only passengers and goes back to Mahajanga loaded on Anjouan. This old fishing boat is too light and the water suction pipe for cooling out of the water in the waves. Finally, the pump and defuses the engine warms up. In rough seas, the three hours that will be needed to stop mechanic to fix the problem will be terrible! The boat heckling in all directions. Freeboards soak in water at each hollow left to right, picking bundles of sea onto the deck. The straps of the motorcycle relax. I’m lying on the floor on my stomach with both hands to tighten the fasteners. The tremors are shaking the bike, and several times I thought she would end up in the sea and the guy with it! Everyone is sick including some members of the crew. Fortunately the weather is calm tomorrow afternoon, everyone has a place to sleep: it will be me on the tarp covering the motorcycle overflowing onto the floor.

Arriving in the port of Mahajan gaat midnight, we still have to wait nine hours at anchor for permission to land in the presence of immigration!

Among the passengers, there was an old and very sick man on his way to seek treatment at a hospital in the capital of Madagascar. He has also spent more than a week on the banks of Anjouan to wait for the start of the damn skiff full Caniard and has suffered through more scabrous to die just arrived in Malagasy port. He never complained!

With this experience under the sign of the total disorganization, stress with these agents Boat liars through their teeth and the general bad faith, I would have been the first to say « Inshallah » if he had out!

Since my arrival, I settled for customs formalities as expected, the CPD is not admissible. It will be even with Jerome Moroni and contacts he had given me here that I will settle the case and to my surprise without giving a dime. His colleague, Jean-Marc put me in touch with the freight forwarder, then some parts of wrestling and the bike out of the port with the help of Christophe, a very nice teacher on vacation in Madagascar, I met in the restaurant of Peter, himself French settled here in recent years.

Since, I recharged the batteries.. I’m eating steaks of zebu, and the motorcycle with the help of Greg, another owner of a French shipping company.

So thank you all for the good laughs that quickly made me forget the pain these days.

I got a great touch: an organizer of bike rides that rents machines on the capital. So I take the road in that direction on Thursday to organize a nice route in the south and to address points fall.

I cannot wait to ride again!

Spent three weeks between Dar Es Salaam and here. When I think it will re-route the other way … I think I will try to make the crossing of Mada Moroni through Mayotte anyway!
