C’est que du désert, maintenant je connais, et je maitrise les nouveaux  panneaux du code de la route local. Dakhla est un super spot de kite surf et d’innombrables  camping-caristes s’y retrouvent pour s’adonner à leur sport favori.

Starting from Laayoune, I made the drive to Dakhla without realising it.

This is the desert, now I know, and I master new panels of local traffic. Dakhla is a great spot for kite surfing and countless motorhomes gather to indulge in their favourite sport.

Après une nuit passée dans le camping de la ville je repartirai assez tard : Direction la Mauritanie : Nouadhibou.

Le passage frontière se fera plus vite que  j’imaginais : quelques aller-retour entre la Police et la Douane pour  faire tamponner Passeport et carnet de passage en douane, et me voilà déjà dans  ce fameux et très chaotique no man’s land de quelques kilomètres entre les deux  pays.

Arrivé à la douane Mauritanienne je serais pris en main,  sans m’en apercevoir au début, par le fameux Momo (dont j’avais entendu parler  sur le net) : le cuisinier de la douane, qui en dehors de ses heures de service  joue le «facilitateur» en s’occupant des démarches administratives  pour les arrivants.

Du moins les arrivants européens qui ont une tête à avoir  plus d’argent que les pauvres sénégalais, outrés de me voir passer devant eux…  Puisqu’en fin de parcours, il demande un billet pour le service.

Après avoir donné quelques cigarettes à un Douanier pour  éviter de longues heures à attendre qu’il fouille la moto de fonds en combles, et  donné mon dernier billet de 50 Dirham à Momo en lui disant qu’il devra s’en  contenter, me voila déjà sur la route.

A Nouadhibou, j’ai comme contact le père d’un amis Lillois.  Je passerai trois jours sur place, à visiter la ville, la plage et ses
pirogues, ainsi que les usines de traitement et congélation de poisson, la pêche  étant l’activité principale de la ville et Toni étant dans la partie.

After a night camping in the city I left quite late: Direction Mauritania: Nouadhibou.

The border crossing was faster than I imagined: some what back and forth between the Police and Customs for Passport control and have it stamped book clearance, and I am already in this famous and very chaotic no man’s land a few miles between the two countries.

Reached the Mauritanian customs I’d taken in hand, without noticing at first, by the famous Momo (which I had heard on the net): guys at customs that out of hours service plays the « facilitator » in dealing with administrative for newcomers.

At least the European settlers who have more money than the poor Senegalese are outraged to see me pass them…

From the end, he requests some money for the service.

After giving a few cigarettes for Customs to avoid long hours of waiting for the search of the motorcycle fund attic and given my last 50 Dirham, Momo saying he should be in content, and now here I am already on the road.

A Nouadhibou, as I touch the father of a friend from Lille. I spend three days there, visiting the city, the beach and canoes, as well as
plants and fish, fishing being the main activity of the city and Toni being in the game.

Un grand merci au passage à Toni et son épouse Lola pour  leur accueil vraiment formidable.

Toni me mettra en relation avec un de ses amis, François, un  Franco-suisse qui organise depuis près de seize  ans des raids moto, randonnées, sorties pêche ou kite dans un  « cabanon ».

Le terme cabanon désignant ici un ensemble de constructions sur la plage, entourées d’un paysage paradisiaque, mais je vous laisse juger par vous-même en allant sur son site : cabanon3.com

Alors que je parle de mon voyage à François, celui-ci  m’annonce qu’il reçoit un groupe d’Italiens le lendemain, pour un raid de deux jours dans le désert, jusqu’au banc d’Arguin. Et il m’invite à me joindre à eux.

D’après lui ma moto, avec ses pneus mixtes, est capable de franchir le sable sans problème, à condition de l’alléger de ses bagages. Il achève de me convaincre quand sur la plage nous faisons l’échange entre ma BM et une de ses Africa Twin : en le voyant faire je suis tout à fait rassuré et j’accepte sans hésiter.

Ces deux journées ont été un pur bonheur ! Une vrai aventure  Africaine dans l’immensité du désert Mauritanien. Rebondissements
et petites galères ont très vite été solutionnés, grâce à la sympathie des mauritaniens, et à l’équipe qui n’en a pas moins fait preuve.

Ce sera pour moi l’occasion unique de prendre réellement  confiance pour la conduite sur sable, tout en profitant des conseils d’un motard chevronné et d’une assistance.

Toni put me in touch with one of his friends, Francis, a Franco-Swiss has organised nearly sixteen years of motorcycle raids, hiking, fishing trips or a kite « Shed » surfing.

While I talk about my trip to Francis, he tells me that he receives a group of Italians for a day raid and two days in the desert, to the Bank of Arguin, and he invited me to join them.

According to him my bike, with mixed tyres, is capable of crossing the sand without problems, provided the ease of his luggage. He completely convinced me on the beach when we exchanged between my BM and its African Twin: by seeing how I am totally reassured and I accepted without hesitation.

These two days were pure bliss! A true African adventure in the vast Mauritanian desert. Twists and small galleys were quickly resolved thanks to the sympathy of the Mauritanian and the team has not demonstrated less.

This will give me the unique opportunity to gain confidence for driving on sand, enjoying the advice of an experienced motorcyclist and assistance.

Moi qui pensais vite passer la Mauritanie, m’imaginant un pays «risqué», je peux affirmer que cette bande de désert  qui longe la plage est un véritable havre de paix, et un terrain de jeux  magnifique pour tout genre de balade, motorisée ou non.

Lundi matin, la première panne sur la BM ne réussira même  pas à me contrarier : c’est que je commence à «lâcher prise» et à raisonner à l’Africaine… inch Allah, Demain çà sera réparé…

En fait après une simple panne sèche causée par la  déconnection de la durite d’aspiration de la pompe à essence immergée
(certainement suite à une chute sur le flanc droit), j’ai non seulement  encrassé la pompe qui ne tourne plus mais en plus esquinté le démarreur en  insistant pour la réamorcer.

Ce soir, après avoir passé deux jours à essayer de changer  le Stator du démarreur avec d’autres trouvés dans les garages locaux, pas de  résultat : Le démarreur tourne à l’envers. Bon j’avance quand même puisque  Toni m’a mis en relation avec un mécano qui tente de recoller les aimants du  stator à la loctite …

Concernant la pompe qui ne tourne plus, et d’après les conseils de fleupe que je viens d’avoir au téléphone, j’essayerai demain
d’inverser la polarité pour la faire tourner volontairement à l’envers, de façon  à la désencrasser (puisque sur la durite qui est tombée, se trouvait la crépine…)

Si je comprends bien j’ai des problèmes de sens de rotation et de polarité mais çà n’est pas nouveau …

Fleupe m’a même conseillé, à propos du démarreur, d’essayer avec un stator de Laguna essence…  (T’aurais pas fait un stage en Afrique Fleupe ??)

I thought that move was fast in Mauritania, imagining a country « risky », I can say that this strip of desert along the beach is a haven and a playground which is great for any kind of ride, motorized or not.

Monday morning, the first failure of the BM will not even upset me: that I began to « let go » and reason in African … inshallah, tomorrow it will be repaired here…

In fact after a single failure caused by dry disconnecting the suction hose from the fuel pump submerged (Probably due to a fall on the right side), I not only clogged the pump, but it no longer turns but also messed up the starter insisting the reboot.

Tonight, after spending two days trying to change the stator of the starter found with other local garages, no Result: The engine turns upside down. Well I still advance as Toni put me in touch with a mechanic who tries to pick up the magnets stator loctite…

On the pump stops rotating, and after the advice Fleupe gave me, and whom I just got off the phone with, I will try tomorrow to reverse the polarity for voluntarily rotate in reverse, thus to unclog (since the hose that fell, was the strainer…)

I understand I have problems with rotation and polarity but here it’s not new… I even told Fleupe about the starter, try a stator of gasoline Laguna… (Shouldn’t you do an internship in Africa Fleupe?)

Si je n’arrive pas à solutionner cette panne avant Vendredi,  je prendrai le bus pour rejoindre JJ à Dakar, où nous avons prévu une
virée en pirogue, et en profiterai pour chercher pompes et démarreur sur place  avant de revenir finir la réparation…

If I can’t solve this failure before Friday, I took the bus to JJ in Dakar, where we have provided a trip in a canoe, and take the opportunity to look up on pumps and starters before returning to finish the repair…
