have wanted to fatten me up with their dishes of homemade mayonnaise and donuts of all kinds (Kisses!)

me revoilà parti sur les routes Françaises pour rejoindre Lyon le 22 au soir.

I’m back out on the road to join some French friends inLyon at 22h00 at night.

Avant le départ j’ai repositionné les pneus tout terrain (ceux que je compte installer sur la moto lorsque je serai dans la gadoue) un peu plus en avant sur la moto. L’idée c’était de mieux répartir la charge…

Je ferai la route de chez ma sœur à Lyon comme ça mais pas un km de plus !

En les recentrant, j’ai été contraint de les incliner un peu plus en avant, ce qui leur donne, une fois harnachés sur la machine, l’impressionnante faculté de déstabiliser complètement la moto en créant une turbulence énorme à l’arrière : Maintenant je sais …..

Before the started, I repositioned the road tyres (those that I intend to install on the bike when I’m in the mud) a little further forward on the bike. The idea was to better distribute the load…

Entre Lyon centre et Francheville, je me suis fait quelques frayeurs sur les routes glissantes : mes pneus sont vraiment morts : l’arrière est usé un peu trop « carré » : il a peut être manqué un peu de pression au début et tous ces kilomètres d’autoroute n’ont rien arrangé…

Je repasse trois jours chez Mike et Edith : Merci pour l’accueil chaleureux !

The centre of Lyon and Francheville, I got a few scares on slippery roads: my tyres are really dead at the back it’s worn a little too « square »: it may have missed some early pressure and all those miles on the highway did not help…

Je rencontre Alain PAULET qui avait fait le périple Africain en moto avec JJ en 2003. Lui aussi a plein d’anecdotes et de conseils à me raconter : vivement l’Afrique !

Je suis parti ce matin de Lyon pour rejoindre Orange car demain, enfin, je change mes pneus (si si ceux qui sont actuellement montés sur la moto : faut prendre des notes ….)

La route a été atroce !

Un Put… de vent comme j’en avais rarement connu.

C’était plus un temps à faire du Kite Surf que de la moto …..

A priori d’après les locaux : Le mistral : y en a pour trois jours…

J’ai carrément failli déclarer forfait sur une aire de repos.

La moto a vraiment une prise au vent terrible avec tous les bagages : je crois bien que j’étais jamais resté aussi longtemps au cul d’un camion à force de me chi… dessus à chaque fois que j’en doublais un …..

The road was atrocious!

So much wind … as I had rarely known.

It was time to go kite surfing with the bike…

I almost outright forfeit a rest area.

The bike has really taken the terrible wind with all the luggage, I think I’d never stayed so long in the ass from one truck as I was forced to stay behind… whenever I was overtaking I couldn’t manage with the wind.

Yesterday we did a little bike ride in the valley of Chevreuse, JJ and I.

Il connait « les Poussin » qui habitent à 3 kms de chez lui et nous sommes allés frapper à leur porte.

Ce couple qui a réalisé l’Africa Trek : La traversée de l’Afrique à pied durant plus de 3 ans, marchant sur plus de 14000 kms : quel exploit, quelle aventure !

Me voilà en compagnie de JJ qui a également parcouru l’Afrique en moto sur 18 mois en 2003 et 2004 et Alexandre Poussin : Quelles références pour un baroudeur en herbe comme moi !

He knows the « Chick » who lives three miles from home and we went knocking on their door.

The couple who made the Africa Trek: The crossing Africa on foot for more than 3 years, walking over 14,000 km: What an achievement, what an adventure!

Here I am in the company of JJ who has also toured Africa by motorcycle for over 18 months in 2003 and 2004 and Alexandre Poussin: What references for a budding adventurer like me!

Alexandre et Sonia seront au Maroc en Mars et Alex me donne son portable pour que je passe éventuellement sur leur camp à Zagora dans la vallée du Draa entre le 17 et le 25. Je pense que je serai plus bas d’ici là mais pas sûr, compte tenu de mon rythme depuis Dunkerque : Trinquille ….

Une petite virée à l’Abbaye des Vaulx de Cernay : Magnifique !!

Alexandre and Sonia will be in Moroccoin March and Alex gave me his cell phone number so that I may pass on their camp in Zagora in the Draa valley between 17 and 25. I think I will be lower by then but not sure, given my pace from Dunkirk very relaxed.

based plantain. This idea was to baptize my bike « the Alocomotive. »

Le départ initialement prévu hier est retardé d’une journée à cause de mon CPD

February 16, I’m at my sister, Sophie and it’s last meal with my brother in law.

Originally the scheduled departure was yesterday, but was delayed a day because of my CPD

(Carnet de passage en Douane) qui n’est arrivé qu’hier en recommandé parce qu’à la suite d’une erreur de frappe sur celui-ci de la part de l’automobile club, j’ai dû le renvoyer et attendre le nouveau « corrigé ».

Comme quoi il faut tout vérifier avant de partir : J’imagine la catastrophe au premier passage frontière avec un CPD ne correspondant pas à ma moto ….

(Carnet de passage Customs) (Book for passing customs) that came in yesterday recommended because after a mistake on it from the automobile club, I had to return it and wait for the new one « corrected ».

Many things must be checked before leaving: I can just imagine the disaster at the first border crossing with CPD does not match my bike…

Ce retard m’aura permis d’aller faire une expertise de la moto pour adapter l’assurance compte tenu  que la machine a subi beaucoup de transformations.

Comme quoi il y a toujours des petits réglages de dernière minute mais bon c’est l’aventure qui commence.

Me voilà donc sur l’A16 direction Lille où je m’arrêterai chez BMW changer la batterie en SAV qui ne tient pas la charge.

Je ne réalise pas vraiment, les premiers tours de roue qui m’éloignent de Dunkerque, le Stress qui descend doucement : me voilà parti en Afrique ……

This delay allowed me to go to a bike expertise to adapt the insurance given that the machine has undergone many transformations.

Like now there are always small adjustments at the last minute but hey it’s the adventure and the adventure begins.

So here I am on the A16 towards Lillewhere I stop at BMW SAV to change the battery that does not charge.

I did not really realize that it would shake me up being away from Dunkirk, the stress that slopes gently: I was off toAfrica…

Je passe à Paris en pleine heure de pointe et en profite pour faire un essai de ma caméra embarquée : malgré le fait de doubler les voitures entre les files, certains motards locaux me poussent encore au cul et arrivent encore à me doubler en pestiférant.

Vas donc petit : Tu vas plus vite mais t’iras moins loin.

I got to Parisin rush hour and the opportunity to give it a try with my on-board camera: Despite doubling the car between the lines,
some local bikers push me up the ass and yet still manage to overtake me in a pestering manner.

Go therefore lighter: You’ll go faster but you will have far less.

Arrivé chez JJ à Chevreuse, je suis reçu comme un pape ; foie gras et confit de canard maison accompagné d’un Merlot d’Afrique du Sud : « Table Mountain »

Petite soirée très sympa devant la cheminée avec les anecdotes de JJ qui me parle de « son grand raid » effectué en 2003. Mon départ pour là-bas lui rappelle de bons souvenirs et il repartirait volontiers…

Lendemain 17 Février, levé tard, j’ai écrasé cette nuit. Je pense que c’est le stress d’un an de préparatifs qui tombe avec cette transition dans la réalité du voyage où maintenant il me faut faire avec les moyens du bord et ne plus devoir anticiper sur tout ce qu’il faut prévoir.

Je viens de me rendre compte sur le Blog que ma balise émet toujours des bips toutes les minutes. C’était la fréquence que j’avais paramétré pour faire les essais à Dunkerque. A priori j’ai bien redemandé un intervalle d’une heure la veille du départ mais ça n’a pas fonctionné parce que la moto n’était pas dehors : je rectifierai tout ça en repartant de chez JJ.

Voilà je pense que comme prévu, je vais traverser la France tranquillement en passant chez ma sœur entre Auxerre et Troyes, chez Micke et Edith à Lyon, chez Touratech à Orange et enfin chez Franck à Montpellier.

Spyderman, je t’appelle vers Lyon pour voir si je passe.

JJ arrived at Chevreuse, I was received like a pope with, foie gras and duck confit homemade with a Merlot fromSouth Africa: « Table Mountain »

A simple nice evening in front of the fireplace with anecdotes that JJ told me about his « great raid » conducted in 2003. I left there to remind him of good memories and he would leave willingly…

Day February 17, woke up later as I crashed that night. I think it’s the stress of a year of preparation falls with this transition in the reality of the journey where I now do with the means at hand and no longer have to anticipate everything you need to provide.

I just realized that my blog on the tag will emit beeps every minute. It was the frequency that I set for testing at Dunkirk. A priori I have asked again an interval of one hour the day before departure but it did not work because the bike was not out: I will correct it all in and out of with JJ.

Here I think as planned, I’ll cross Francequietly through to my sister between Auxerre and Troyes, at Micke and Edith in Lyon,
Touratech Orange and finally Franck in Montpellier.

SPYDERMAN, I will call you from Lyon to see if I pass.

Well, first of all I want to say that I have perfect confidence in the preparation of the machine. Fleupe did a good job, everything is checked, bolts tightened, lubricated bearings and valves adjusted.

Cela dit, vous savez bien que même les plus grands scientifiques, génies et inventeurs testent leurs inventions ou découvertes ……

C’est à ça que je pensais en rentrant du Pot Dimanche soir sur la route qui me conduisait chez ma sœur à Looberghe.

Mais comment pouvoir tester la résistance de ma machine aux pistes Africaines, à la poussière locale, à la température extrême et autres paramètres si difficiles à reproduire ici ??

C’est en gambergeant à cette nécessité scientifique de faire quelques essais que soudain, comme un cadeau de Dieu qui devait sentir mon désarroi, j’aperçois une plaque de glace sur la chaussée.

Evidemment le comportement d’une moto sur la latérite Africaine par 45° n’est pas tout à fait identique à celui sur la glace à Looberghe mais compte tenu de l’impossibilité de reproduire ces conditions extrêmes ici, je saute sur l’obélie.

Un grand coup de frein bien maitrisé, un petit coup de guidon subtilement dosé accompagné d’un léger déhanché ont quand même été nécessaires pour compenser mes réflexes légendaires qui auraient pu prendre le dessus et me faire rater ce test ….

Et La ……. VRAC : Ma gueule au tas !

J’ai réussi pendant les 20 secondes de glissade à analyser l’intégralité du comportement de la bête.

Résistance au frottement : OK

Coefficient de déformation : OK

Stabilité sur le flan : OK

Tenue des accessoires : OK

Rien à dire : c’est une sacrée préparation.

Le bonhomme, même pas mal !

Maintenant je suis prêt !

That said, you know that even the greatest scientific geniuses and inventors test their inventions or discoveries…

That’s what I thought after returning from Pot Sunday night, on the road that led me to my sister Looberghe.

But how to test the strength of my machine on African tracks, dust and the extreme temperatures different from the local
temperatures and other parameters so difficult to reproduce here?

It is a giant task to have the need to do some testing, suddenly, as a gift of God that must have felt my dismay, I noticed a patch of ice on the road.

Obviously the behaviour of a motorcycle on the African laterite 45 ° is not quite the same as on the ice Looberghe but given the impossibility of reproducing these extreme conditions here, I jumped at the opportunity.

A large slowdown well-controlled, a little bit of handlebar subtly dosed with a slight lop-sidedness were nevertheless required to compensate for my legendary reflexes could take over and make me miss this test …

And…IN BULK: My mouth to the heap!

I managed for 20 seconds to analyse the behaviour of the whole animal.

Abrasion resistance: OK

Deformation coefficient: OK

Stability in the blank: OK

Keeping accessories: OK

Nothing to say: it is a sacred preparation.

The man, not bad!

Tant pis, peux pas faire un pot de départ du grand Raid sans déposer la moto sur place…… Même pas peur.

Too bad, cannot organise a big party for the departure of The Raid without removing the motorcycle in place … Not even scared.

Désolé de ne pas avoir eu le temps de vraiment discuter avec tout le monde, je pense à Oliv qui a fait la route de Lille et à beaucoup d’autres.
